I am an award winning illustrator and fine artist. After studying art and design at the Kunstakademie Münster, I moved to Stuttgart and completed my studies of stage and costume design at the State Academy of Fine Arts.
Since 2005 I have been working for renowned publishers illustrating cover pages, fiction and non-fiction books, biographies, children’s and young adult literature as well as magazines and newspapers. My illustrations can be found on the Spiegel bestseller list and among the „Most Beautiful Books in Germany“. My illustrations have been shortlisted twice for the World Illustration Awards, in 2016 and 2020.
Since 2012 I have been passing on my knowledge as a lecturer for foundations of design, magazine creation, cover pages and the composition of illustrated series.
After a stop in Tokyo, Irmela now lives in Berlin with her daughter and her dog.
